Avoid Chapter 7 Chicago Bankruptcy By Ending Your Unemployment - Can Obama Help?
08-Sep-2011 Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Chicago is often something that comes on quickly and is unexpected. A Chicago family may be doing well and keeping up with their bills and even getting ahead when one of them loses their job. The loss of an entire income can cause disaster to a family's financial structure.
If the family has a savings set aside they can stay afloat while the unemployed looks for a new job and collects unemployment if applicable. However once the reserve funds are gone they may not be able to stop foreclosure or avoid bankruptcy.
The Chicago Tribune reported that jobless people in Chicago are holding out some hope for Obama's plans to create jobs and decrease unemployment rates across the board. In Chicago the unemployment rate is slightly higher than the national average. However in particular areas like North Chicago the rate is 19.2% unemployed. In contrast areas like Highland Park only have 5.7% unemployed. It is these varying rates that bring the Illinois average to 10% compared to the 9.3% nationally.
Unemployment has also caused an increase in foreclosures in Chicago. When there isn't any income coming in, it does not take long to fall behind on your mortgage and enter into foreclosure. Home sales are down in Chicago but the number of foreclosed properties that are being sold has increased over last year. This is good news in terms of liquidating the surplus of foreclosed homes but a family trying to sell their home to avoid bankruptcy or foreclosure will have a hard time. It's not easy to compete with the low prices caused by a foreclosure or short sale.
According to the Chicago Tribune, there is hope for the unemployed and the Illinois Department of Employment Security is there to help. They recognize that some areas are bouncing back better than others. Their advice is to adapt to this changing job market. The Illinois Department of Employment Security provides help improving a job candidate's skills. Training in computer skills is a big one. When you lose a job it's easy to look for similar positions to apply for. This is a good place to start but broadening your search and improving your skills opens you up to more positions and puts you ahead of the competition.
Losing a job and immediately revamping your skills and getting yourself back out there could mean the difference between staying unemployed and needed to file for chapter 7 Chicago or quickly getting a new job and being able to stop foreclosure and bankruptcy from becoming a reality.
