Dreading Filing Your 2011 Taxes? This Year Your IRS Tax Attorney Has 3 Extra Days To File Your Taxes
16-Jan-2012 If you pay tax in Chicago and filing your taxes is something you dread each year you will be happy to know that this year you get an extension. The government isn't giving everyone extra time but they have decided to honor holidays.
Every year the due date to have your taxes filed without an extension is April 15th. As reported in the Chicago Sun Times, April 15th 2012 falls on a Sunday. Typically this would just push the deadline one day to Monday April 16th however that is also Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia. Law requires that the District of Columbia holidays be acknowledged as federal holidays would when deciding to push the tax deadline.
This gets you two extra days to file your taxes. If that's not enough you technically get a third day because 2012 is a Leap Year. This means that February has 29 days instead of the usual 28.
Filing your taxes means there is a chance you will be contacted by the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) or the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR). Having an IRS tax attorney on your side will help you handle this challenging situation and ultimately get the IRS and IDOR off your back.
Some people have just started their search for tax lawyers in Chicago to help them handle the 2011 tax filing. For someone that owes the government money they may already be working with an IRS tax attorney. It is beneficial if your attorney already has your background information. It will speed up the process if they already know your story.
If the IRS audits you, they may find that you did not sufficiently pay tax in Chicago and you owe money. If this money is not paid the U.S. government can put tax liens on your assets.
Anytime a lien is put on your property it means that you cannot sell or refinance until the debt has been paid. An IRS tax attorney can help you handle the situation and represent you if you believe the lien has been put on by mistake.
Your IRS tax attorney will encourage you not to fear filing your taxes. If it turns out you did not adequately pay tax in Chicago and you do owe the government more money you can work with them to set up a payment plan to pay the debts. Or if the IRS and IDOR are targeting you for no reason, your IRS tax attorney can work to clear up any misunderstandings.
